Digital Grounds Sample Set
- Golden Digital Grounds
In “The Basics” workshop I recommended the Digital Grounds Sample Pack, which was a great way to test and get familiar with the products. For this workshop you can continue using the sample pack but consider purchasing the large bottles which are more economical in the long term. - Golden Clear Tar Gel
Clear tar gel is designed to yield a pully, tar-like feel, but in a colorless gel. This gel has an extremely resinous and stringy consistency, which makes it feel very different than other acrylics. It’s a self-leveling gel and has full transparency when dry. It dries with a high gloss sheen. In this workshop it will be used to make clear, transparent acrylic skins. - Liquitex Gel Mediums
Gel Mediums are used for a variety of mixed media applications, including image transfers (gloss gel). In this workshop it is used to make acrylic skins and although I use two types, you can select only one if you want or you can use the Matte Medium that you used in the “Basics” workshop:
- Gel Medium, Gloss
- Gel Medium, Matte
I use Liquitex brand but you can substitute for other brands. - Liquitex Glass Bead Gel
A medium body gel that contains clear round plastic beads and dries to a semi-gloss surface. Perfect for creating a “bubbly” but smooth texture that can be dramatic when mixed with color. In this workshop it is used to create texture on fabric and textured acrylic skins. I use Liquitex brand but you can substitute for Golden brand. - Light Molding Paste
Offers dramatic weight reductions when building thick layers of acrylic. The density of the wet product is over 50% less than GOLDEN Molding Paste. This results in a significantly lighter film. Beneficial in creating artworks that are large in size, have thick film build-up, or both. Dries to an opaque, matte finish. The consistency is designed to hold stiff peaks to create a highly textured surface. In this workshop it will be used as a surface treatment for textured fabric paper. - Crackle Paste
Develops fissure-like cracks as it dries and thickness of application determines size of crackle. For best results on fabric, finish with a sealer. I use DecoArt brand which can be found in craft stores, however you can also substitute for Golden brand. - Gesso
Used to prepare surfaces for painting. It’s flexible and non-cracking, and provides perfect tooth to a wide variety of supports such as canvas, paper and wood. In this workshop it’s used as a surface treatment for fabric paper. The Liquitex Basics brand is economical but any brand will do. - Krylon Preserve It! Spray Sealer
Digital photo and paper protectant more than doubles the life of documents and photos. Guards against moisture and UV fading. Ideal for protecting digital photos, address labels, greeting cards, scrapbook materials, artwork and more. Acid-free/Archival-safe. In this workshop it is used as a sealer for your images.
