In between the upcoming barrage of photos and techniques I’ll be posting soon as I continue with my Digital Grounds experiments, I thought I’d share some of the fun new blogs I’ve been introduced to by some of my lovely students at the Free Lunch Cafe.

The “Free Lunch Cafe”

The “Free Lunch Cafe” is now open for a business!

Free Lunch Cafe

My brand new website dedicated to providing you with “free lunches” (free online mini-classes) has just been launched so stop by and check it out.

You can download immediately the “Free Appetizer” which is my Machine Wrapped Cording class. If you haven’t taken this class before it’s a great technique to learn and you can get very creative with it – just visit the online gallery of past students to see their terrific results.

And coming in September – Brilliant Handmade Beads – a mini-class teaching you various ways to make handmade beads which are great embellishments for art quilts and other creative projects.

Also coming soon – “Guest Chefs” (guest teachers) who will be presenting you with their own brand of “spicy” mini-classes.

The best thing about the “Free Lunch Cafe” is that you’ll get to learn some great art quilt techniques as well as being able to interact with other students and teachers all for free!

Understanding color is an important aspect of being a quilter and an artist. Some of us can just get plainly confused about how colors go together; and particularly, why some shouldn’t.

Color Matters is a comprehensive website covering all aspects of color; from basic theory to symbolism; from design & art to how color affects the body. Here you will find the answer to just about any color question you have.

Make Your Own Design Wall

Every quilt artist should have a design wall in order to test and preview fabrics and design components before sewing them together. Using a design wall to preview your choices alleviates a lot of unnecessary “unstitching”. Whether it’s a permanent or temporary fixture however will very much depend on the size of your sewing studio.

You will need to join the group to view the images, but once joined up you can submit your own images to the pool or simply download and use the images that are available. And as always, be mindful of the copyright.
