Are You Safe?

Is your fabric addiction a serious case?
Can you pass a quilt shop without stopping?
For the fabrics you buy, do you have enough space?
Is your life devoted to shopping?
Then take warning and beware
If quilting is a new passion:
Exposure to quilt shops and the fabrics therein
Is a thing the susceptible should ration.
Be sensible, strong and limit your visits
To these dens of textilean seduction.
Say ‘No’ now and then just to show that you can.
Claim you are practising safe stash reduction.
It may well not help — once you have been hooked
On the thrill of the fabric chase,
Nothing can quite compare to the feeling you get
When your acquisitions are home and in place.

About Jacquie

I was born and grew up in Maine. I met my husband of nearly 56 years while in college. We went to Europe and stayed for 25 years — Italy and Germany. Both daughters were born there and stayed when we returned to the States — good reason to go back from time to time. I started quilting in 1991 and writing quilty verse in 1996, mostly posted on-line, esp on Quilt Art. We moved to Vermont in Fall of 2003 and I spent the next two years with breast cancer and two knee replacements — added to the corrective lenses that replaced those with cataracts in 1996 I am on my way to becoming a bionic woman. As well as quilting and too much time at the computer I do a lot of reading — not just quilt related books and magazines but also mysteries and fantasy fiction. I try to do a little gardening but nowhere near as much as I did earlier.

I treasure the many wonderful people I have met through my on-line groups as well as the numerous quilters I have known through the past years. Their comments and insights have inspired many of the verses I have written and their encouragement has kept me writing more.

First Quilt

My first quilt was an adventure
Into an unknown land.
I wouldn’t choose the same colors now,
But then I thought they were grand!
The pattern was harder than I should have tried,
But it turned out pretty well –
Galloping by on a horse at midnight
The mistakes are hard to tell!
It was finished and shown off proudly,
It was cherished and used a lot.
Like one’s first love it is remembered –
Not perfect but never forgot.
