As most of you would be aware, I am currently in the process of compiling the lessons and videos from my online classes into Workbooks on DVD, and some time ago I had the idea of also compiling the lessons and video from my complementary class “Machine Wrapped Cording” - which is a very popular and fun online workshop - into a “Workbook For Download” with the proceeds being donated to a charity. The charity which sprang to mind was Fiberart for A Cause.
As individuals we often feel like we can’t make much of a difference, but as a combined group we can make a noticeable and considerable difference and one individual though who has indeed made a most noticeable difference is Virginia Spiegel who founded Fiberart for A Cause, a fundraising effort on behalf of the American Cancer Society which has to date raised an amazing $165,000 plus.
When I approached Virginia with my idea to help raise money for her cause she was extremely enthusiastic and encouraging about the idea. It always makes us feel good to give to a worthy cause, but when you get something in return for your donation - how much better can that get!
I have spent a great deal of time and effort in compiling this little workbook - it’s no small feat to put one of these workbooks together - and the result is a slick little multimedia ebook with step-by-step instructions for making wrapped cording on your sewing machine, including video, sample photos, options and applications, tips and tricks, and resources.
The ebook requires the current version of Adobe Reader which is free, and contains its own flash player so you can view the video on your desktop without the hassle of downloading any further software. It also contains a printable copy of the lessons which you can use to compile a workbook for your samples.
All this is yours for a tiny little $5.00 donation. Go get it !!

Finding time to be creative is sometimes a balancing act. Family, jobs and a busy lifestyle can suck up our time without us even realizing it. Or maybe you feel that taking time for yourself is selfish; that this time could be better spent tending to our families.
We all need personal time - time to reflect and to recharge our batteries, and for art quilters this usually means finding time to create our art!
When we are separated from our source of creativity for long periods, even though we might not consciously be aware of it, our bodies react in subtle, and not so subtle, ways. We can feel anxious, a little off-color, sometimes it’s just a feeling of being out of balance. Stop and listen to what your body is telling you - become aware of the little signals that your body is trying to send you.
Finding time for yourself, even if it’s only an hour or half an hour a day, benefits not just yourself, but your whole family. When you feel balanced and empowered, you have more positive energy to give back to them.
“Time Management for Creative People” is a thoughtful little 32-page free ebook by writer and creativity coach Mark McGuinness. In it he lists a number of things that creative people can do to manage their time better.
If you have been neglecting yourself, take the first step - spend half an hour with this short book, implement some of the strategies and make some time for yourself. Your whole family will thank you.
